This website provides information about a clinical research study, GARDENIA-SLE, for people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) commonly called lupus.

An estimated 3.4 million people worldwide are living with lupus, many of whom face uncertainty and challenges in managing a complex and unpredictable condition. The course of lupus and its symptoms can differ from person to person and may change over time.
The GARDENIA-SLE clinical research study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of an investigational medicine for participants with moderate to severe lupus. The investigational medicine has not been approved by any regulatory agency for the treatment of lupus.

What are clinical research studies?

Clinical research studies, also called clinical trials, are conducted to determine whether an investigational medicine is safe and effective for patients with a particular disease. “Investigational” means that the medicine has not been approved for public use in patients with lupus and is still being evaluated in clinical research studies like GARDENIA-SLE. All investigational medicines must go through several phases of clinical research before they are made available to the public. All clinical research studies are performed according to strict ethical and governmental guidelines to ensure that participants’ rights and safety are protected while they are taking part in the study.
